Qwen 3.8 Uncensored: Abliterated and Heretic Builds

The short version: Qwen 3.8 27B is Apache 2.0, so the community is free to remove its refusals and republish it. Abliterated, heretic and uncensored builds have been on Hugging Face since August 14, 2026. The usual pick is a Q4 file of about 17 GB on a 24 GB card. The hosted Qwen 3.8 Max keeps its refusals, so uncensored Qwen 3.8 means the 27B on your own hardware.

Qwen 3.8 27B landed on Hugging Face on August 13, 2026. It is a dense 27B model with a native context of 262,144 tokens, and it reads images and video. The first abliterated builds followed one day later. Background on the base model is in How to Run Qwen 3.8 27B Locally.

The Builds People Actually Download

These four GGUF packs were among the most downloaded uncensored Qwen 3.8 27B builds on Hugging Face on October 10, 2026. All four name Qwen/Qwen3.8-27B as base model and Apache 2.0 as license. File sizes were read off the repositories on the same day.

Abliterated, Heretic, Uncensored: What the Names Mean

Abliterated means the refusal behaviour was removed from the weights directly, without retraining. The model keeps its knowledge and loses the reflex to decline. Heretic is the name of an automated tool that does the same job and searches for the settings itself. Uncensored is the loosest label. It can mean an abliteration, a fine tune, or both, so the model card is the only reliable source.

What these edits change, and what they can cost in answer quality, is covered in the abliterated models guide.

Which File for Which Card

VRAMFile to look forSize in the packs above
12 GBIQ2_M or Q2_K10.3 to 10.9 GB, with a real quality drop and little context
16 GBIQ4_XS15.3 to 15.7 GB
24 GBQ4_K_M, Q5_K_M16.5 to 16.8 GB and about 19.5 GB
32 GBQ6_K, Q8_022.4 GB and 29.0 GB

Add the context on top. On this architecture one token of context costs 64 KB, so 32K of context needs about 2 GB next to the weights. On 8 GB or 12 GB a smaller model is the better choice.

How to Run It

The quick way is Locally Uncensored. Take the installer from the releases page, open the Model Manager and search for Qwen 3.8. The app reads your card and hides the quants that will not fit. Nothing leaves your machine and there is no account.

By hand with a current llama.cpp build:

llama-server -m Qwen3.8-27B-Uncensored-Q4_K_M.gguf \
  --ctx-size 32768 --n-gpu-layers 99 --jinja

Keep --jinja. It makes llama.cpp use the chat template inside the file, which this model needs for its thinking blocks. For images, the pack has to ship an mmproj file of about 0.9 GB, which you load with --mmproj. Without it the model ignores every picture.

Two Things That Go Wrong

The chat forgets after a few turns. The official chat template nests think blocks and truncates the history. It looks like a bad quant and it is the template. Use a pack that ships a corrected template, and download again if your file is from the first hours after release.

MTP or no MTP. Some packs carry a small extra head for speculative decoding, marked MTP. It adds roughly 0.3 to 0.8 GB and does nothing for answer quality. If you do not use speculative decoding, take the file without it.

Qwen 3.8 or Qwen 3.6 Abliterated?

Qwen 3.8 27B is the better model at the same size and the same license, with a longer native context. Qwen 3.6 abliterated has been in use for longer. If you already run it and it does the job, there is no rush. The side by side is in Qwen 3.8 vs Qwen 3.6, and other options are in the 2026 roundup of uncensored models. Everything else on the family is under all Qwen guides.

FAQ

Is there an uncensored Qwen 3.8?

Yes. Abliterated, heretic and uncensored builds of Qwen 3.8 27B have been on Hugging Face since August 14, 2026. They run locally as GGUF files.

Is Qwen 3.8 uncensored by default?

No. The original weights and the hosted Qwen 3.8 Max carry the standard alignment and refusals. The uncensored versions are community edits of the open 27B weights.

Is it legal to abliterate Qwen 3.8?

Qwen 3.8 27B is released under Apache 2.0, which permits commercial use, fine tuning and redistribution. That covers modified weights. What you do with the output is still your responsibility under your local law.

How much VRAM does Qwen 3.8 abliterated need?

A 4 bit file is 16.5 to 16.8 GB, plus 64 KB per token of context. A 24 GB card is the comfortable home. A 16 GB card takes the IQ4_XS file at 15.3 to 15.7 GB.

What is the difference between abliterated and heretic?

Both remove the refusal behaviour from the weights without retraining. Abliteration is the technique, and Heretic is an automated tool that applies it and tunes the settings on its own.

Can I run uncensored Qwen 3.8 without a GPU?

A 27B model on CPU alone is slow. The options are in How to run Qwen 3.8 without a GPU.

Run Qwen 3.8 on your own hardware. Free and open source.
